Up-to-date neuroscience module
Sat Apr 24, 2021 8:47 pm
This module resembles a BB unit style compared to second year PA units. Whereas the second year CNS PA module focuses on the established mechanisms of diseases and the pharmacological approaches to treating them, this unit looks more into how these diseases are researched and current theories.
Consequently, the lectures cover potential mechanisms and ways of researching depression, addiction, schizophrenia and some others. Reading around the topics is also incredibly valuable. You will be aimed to synthesise your own considered judgement of hypotheses and methods rather than learning established facts - a common theme amongst many final year units.
Unless you are taking the level 4 version of the unit, there is no coursework. Some may prefer this if they perform better in exams or wish to free up some of the semester.
This unit will bring you up to date in the research of many highly relevant neurological disorders, with a big focus on depression. Therefore, it is a good unit for those interested in neuroscience.
